History
The inaugural Alleviating Poverty Through Entrepreneurship Summit held on February 20th, 2009 was the first major event at Ohio State to focus exclusively on social entrepreneurship. The APTE Summit 2009 featured diverse perspectives on market-based solutions to poverty including those from social entrepreneurs, leading academics, corporations, non-profits, and government representatives.
The 2009 Summit was organized in approximately 3 months time and bootstrapped with a total budget of less than $5000. The event was a success and well attended by over 300 students, professors, and community members. Sidney Hargro (Senior Officer, Columbus Foundation) remarked that the student organizers “planned and implemented one of the best day-long events I’ve ever experienced.”
