Academic Director

Dr. S. Michael Camp

Michael joined the Center in June 2004 as academic director. In this capacity, Michael sets and implements the Center's strategic direction and programmatic platform, designs the academic and outreach programs, manages the staff and administers the Center's budget. Prior to joining the Center, Michael was founder of Advanced Research Technologies, LLC (ART), an economic development consulting firm located in Raleigh, NC. Prior to ART, he served as vice president of research for the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the largest private foundation dedicated to the advancement of the science and practice of entrepreneurship. In 1993, Michael received a Ph.D in strategic management and a master's degree in organization theory from the Ohio State University. He has consulted with dozens of entrepreneurial ventures and currently consults in the areas of new venture development, entrepreneurial performance, technology commercialization and entrepreneurship-based economic development.
